The government has increased the minimum monthly salary for workers in all sectors except tea estates to Rs. 19,550.
This new wage rate is Rs. 2,250 more than the previous minimum of Rs. 17,300. The decision came through an agreement among the government, employers, and trade unions.
The revised salary has already come into effect from the beginning of Shrawan (July 17). However, the minimum wage for tea estate workers will be decided later after more discussions with the concerned parties.
Speaking about the agreement, Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Sarad Singh Bhandari said that all sides worked together with flexibility to reach a mutual understanding. He believes this approach will help ensure the new wage is implemented smoothly.
According to Nepal’s Labour Act of 2074, the government is required to revise the minimum wage every two fiscal years.
