Massive Police Investigation Follows Gen Z Protests; 267 Arrested

A large-scale investigation is underway following the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9, with police confirming the arrest of 267 individuals linked to arson, vandalism, and public disorder.

 

According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, authorities have filed 154 cases so far. Of those detained, 87 people have been released on bail, while investigations continue against 113 others. Among them, 33 have been freed on surety bonds and 43 sent to judicial custody.

 

Police said they received 104 complaints related to arson and vandalism, 22 from individuals, 66 involving government offices, and 16 concerning businesses and institutions, including incidents at the Supreme Court and the CIAA.

 

An additional 42 complaint applications have been lodged, three of them by police personnel. DNA tests are being conducted to identify seven individuals whose identities remain unknown. Authorities have also completed 228 damage assessment reports for buildings affected during the unrest.

 

Police further reported that 102 inmates who escaped from various prisons during the protests have been rearrested, and 83 firearms have been recovered and registered.
