The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) inched up by 5.32 points on Tuesday, closing at 2,655.99 despite a highly volatile trading session.
The market opened at 2,650.66 points and dipped sharply to 2,637.92 within the first 20 minutes. Momentum then shifted, pushing the index to the day’s high of 2,658.19. However, another decline followed, taking NEPSE to a fresh low of 2,636.34 in the final hour and a half of trading. A late recovery of around 19 points helped the index settle in positive territory by closing time.
Four sectoral indices ended in the red, trading plunged 51.45 points, life insurance lost 41.33 points, development banks shed 13.62 points, and mutual funds slipped 0.06 points. Meanwhile, manufacturing and processing led the gainers’ side with a strong rise of 101.37 points.
The sensitive index, reflecting the performance of ‘A’ class companies, gained 1.39 points. Daily turnover, however, slowed to Rs 5.82 billion from the previous day’s Rs 7.03 billion.
A total of 122 companies advanced while 125 declined. Bandipur Cablecar and Tourism Limited topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 269.99 million. Jhapa Energy Limited emerged as the day’s top gainer, hitting the 10 percent positive circuit, whereas Joshi Hydropower Development Company Ltd saw the steepest fall at 4.96 percent.
