The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), has called on the government to immediately begin investigations into the recent visit visa scandal, despite a previously agreed 30-day timeframe.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday, Maoist MP Shakti Basnet said the Home Minister had already made a public commitment from the parliamentary rostrum to initiate an investigation within 30 days. However, Basnet stressed that waiting that long is unnecessary.
"The government has already pledged to form a study and investigation committee within 30 days. But we say, there’s no need to wait. Let the process start within a few days," Basnet said.
He urged the government to form the investigation committee immediately and act on its promise, saying timely action is essential to address growing public concern over the misuse of visit visas.
The Maoist Centre insists that a prompt and transparent probe is necessary to uphold public trust and ensure accountability.
