Kukur Tihar and Laxmi Puja, two major days of the Tihar festival, are being celebrated nationwide today with devotion and joy.
The morning began with Kukur Tihar, dedicated to honoring dogs for their loyalty and companionship. People offered garlands, tika, and special food to dogs, believed to be messengers of Lord Yama, the god of death. The day also coincides with Narak Chaturdashi, when devotees take ritual baths and light Yamadeep lamps to seek liberation from sin.
In the evening, worshippers observe Laxmi Puja, honoring the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Homes are cleaned, decorated with lights and rangolis, and adorned with symbolic footprints to welcome the goddess.
Girls performing bhailo songs and dances add to the festive charm, while many also worship cows in the morning as symbols of fortune.
With glowing lights, music, and celebration, Nepal shines brightly in the spirit of Tihar.
