Khadga KC Designated as Acting VC of Tribhuvan University

Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Tribhuvan University, KP Sharma Oli, has designated Khadga KC, the rector of the university, as its acting vice-chancellor in accordance with Article 21B of the Tribhuvan University Act (1992)

Article 21B states: Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, if a post is vacant in the University, Chancellor, in case of Vice-chancellor, in consultation of the Pro-chancellor and Vice-chancellor in case of any other Authority, shall designate any of the senior (most) Professor to that post to conduct daily business for a period of three months till the date of fulfillment of the vacant post.  


Article 19 (7) of the Act states: In the absence of the Vice-chancellor, the Rector shall perform the functions of the Vice-chancellor.

Chancellor Oli had approved the resignation tendered by Vice-chancellor Keshar Jung Baral about a fortnight ago, 13 months after his appointment for a four-year term. 

In subsequent interactions with the media, Baral has cited non-cooperation and interference from the PM and chancellor Oli as the reasons behind his resignation.
