The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley has continued to drop for the second day in a row.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, Kathmandu recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am on Monday. On Sunday, the temperature was 4.5 degrees Celsius at the same time and later dropped slightly to 4.2 degrees Celsius by 8:45 am.

The Division said the official minimum temperature of the day is measured at 8:45 am, so there is still a chance that Monday’s temperature could fall further before the final reading. On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was 5.5 degrees Celsius, showing a steady decrease over the past few days.

The Weather Forecasting Division records minimum and maximum temperatures across the country every day. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm.

Meteorologists say clear skies at night allow heat to escape, causing colder mornings. In contrast, cloud cover helps trap heat, leading to higher minimum temperatures. During the day, cloudy weather usually keeps temperatures lower by blocking sunlight, while clear skies allow temperatures to rise.
