President of the Federation of Nepalese Industries and Commerce (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has said that the present time is appropriate for policy reforms. He stated that in the past, policy decisions could not be made on time due to inter-party conflicts, but the current government is in a favorable position to carry out policy reforms.

Speaking at a program organized in the capital on the occasion of International Customs Day today, Dhakal said that in the past, ministers often lacked subject-specific knowledge, which led to confusion and delays in policy decisions. He urged the government to focus on policy reforms, noting that the presence of an expert finance minister makes this an opportune time.

Dhakal said, “This is absolutely the right time for policy reforms. In many cases, ministers did not even clearly understand what they wanted to do. Due to poor coordination, many necessary tasks could not be carried out. The work currently being done under the leadership of the finance minister is very good.”

He emphasized that while the government prioritizes revenue generated from customs, it should move forward in a way that does not negatively impact the development of entrepreneurship. He stressed the need to introduce policies that promote entrepreneurship.

Dhakal also complained that although the government has recognized hotels and tourism as industries, they have not received the facilities provided to other industries. He said that immediate implementation of such provisions would help develop entrepreneurship. He also drew the finance minister’s attention to the fact that certain issues have been unnecessarily made controversial by the Securities Board of Nepal.
