The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) have jointly issued a seven-day ultimatum to clear encroached and non-compliant structures within the capital.
Following a joint meeting held on October 18, the city office released a public notice on Thursday urging concerned individuals and organizations to voluntarily remove or vacate illegal constructions within the given deadline. The notice warns that failure to comply will prompt the metropolis to take direct enforcement action.
According to the notice, all encroachments and structures built against urban standards in public spaces across the Kathmandu district will be removed. The move is aimed at improving the city’s urban management and restoring its visual appeal.
Encroachments along roadsides, public land, and riverbanks are expected to be the main focus of the operation. While past attempts at similar actions were largely ineffective, authorities believe this campaign, backed by the KVDA will be implemented more forcefully and consistently this time.
