Authorities have announced plans to remove illegal structures built along the Dhobikhola corridor and the Bagmati River area in Kathmandu.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA), the decision targets individuals and groups who have unlawfully occupied public land and built structures without authorization. Despite repeated verbal warnings, many had ignored the orders, prompting the authority to issue a strict seven-day ultimatum, said KVDA Development Commissioner Januka Dhakal.
She stated that those who fail to clear the encroached land within the given time will face forced eviction. However, Dhakal clarified that the current action does not include squatter settlements. “This notice is aimed only at those who have built illegal structures by seizing public land around Dhobikhola and Bagmati. The issue of squatter settlements is different and will be addressed separately through proper coordination,” she said.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City and KVDA jointly issued the public notice, following a decision made in their meeting on Ashoj 2. The notice warns that failure to remove the illegal structures within seven days will lead to legal action and demolition by the authorities.
