As discussions intensify over a potential merger between the CPN (Unified Socialist) and the CPN (Maoist Centre), senior leader Jhalanath Khanal has sharply criticized the initiative, calling it “inappropriate for the current political moment.”
Currently in India for his wife’s medical treatment, Khanal released a statement asserting that the party should prioritize reorganization and ideological renewal instead of rushing into unity.
He disclosed that he had not been consulted about the unification process, describing it as “a celebration at an inopportune time.”
“This is not the hour for unification, the party must undergo a revolutionary restructuring to move in the right direction,” Khanal remarked.
The veteran leader emphasized that the Unified Socialist should first strengthen its internal base and restore political clarity, adding that talks of unity are misplaced and premature.
Recalling past political alliances with the Nepali Congress, Khanal warned against repeating similar errors that led to a loss of ideological direction.
Khanal concluded by urging the leadership to engage with young voices within the party and to focus on organizational transformation grounded in ideological and political clarity.
