Under the first phase of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal, the process of releasing hostages held in Gaza is expected to begin on Monday, with a list of 22 hostages confirmed to be alive now released by international media. Among them is Bipin Joshi, a Nepali national who was taken hostage during the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack.
Prominent outlets such as The Times of Israel and Associated Press (AP) reported that Joshi’s name appeared clearly in the official list of living hostages. Earlier, CNN had reported that the condition of Joshi and another individual remained unknown, leaving uncertainty about their status.
The new list includes names such as Gali Berman, Nimrod Cohen, Ariel Cunio, and Eitan Horn, alongside Joshi, confirming that they are among those believed to be alive and awaiting release.
Following the ceasefire agreement signed on Friday, the hostage release process is expected to take place between Monday and Tuesday, as part of a reciprocal deal. In exchange, Israel is preparing to free around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The announcement has brought a wave of relief and hope to the families of those named. In Nepal, Joshi’s inclusion in the list has been met with widespread optimism and prayers for his safe return.
The Government of Nepal has confirmed that it is continuing all diplomatic efforts to ensure Joshi’s release and safe repatriation.
Joshi, a young Nepali student who had gone to Israel under a “learn and earn” program, was among several foreign nationals taken captive when Hamas militants stormed southern Israel last year.
For many in Nepal, his expected release represents not only a personal relief but also a symbol of hope amid the prolonged conflict.
