Banke, Nepal – The Jamunaha border crossing between Nepal and India has resumed full operations after remaining closed and partially functional for several days due to the Gen-Z protests.
Security officials from both countries confirmed on Monday that movement across the checkpoint has returned to normal. Inspector Ritu Raj of India’s SSB in Rupaidia said Nepali citizens had been allowed into India from the beginning, but now travellers from both nations can cross freely without restrictions.
Until recently, only Nepalis in emergency situations, such as patients or ambulances, were permitted to enter India, while Indian nationals were barred from entering Nepal. Authorities at the Jamunaha Area Police Office also confirmed that the checkpoint is now running smoothly following the restoration of normalcy.
Local travelers returning from India said movement is hassle-free at present, with crossings permitted upon verification of identity documents.
The border had been closed since last Wednesday after directives from Indian central authorities in response to protests in Nepal. On the Nepali side, security forces had allowed returning Nepalis but restricted Indian nationals and vehicles.
The unrest also left significant damage last week when protesters vandalized and set fire to the Jamunaha police post and customs office, reducing them to ruins.
