The interim government has announced new measures to curb unnecessary foreign travel by officials. In a cabinet meeting held on 5 Asoj, the Council of Ministers decided to prohibit non-essential foreign visits and set limits on the size of delegations.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the move aims to reduce current expenditures. A government statement noted that foreign representation by federal, provincial, or local government bodies, institutions, and regulatory agencies will only be allowed in essential cases. In such cases, the concerned organization will have the authority to represent the government.
Under the new rules, delegations led by the President or Prime Minister for essential international conferences or meetings can include a maximum of 10 members, while other government-sponsored delegations will be limited to three members.
The government has also decided not to provide separate offices, vehicles, foreign travel, or other physical facilities for ministers, political officeholders, or their personal secretariats.
Additionally, training, seminars, and workshops that are not critical will be discouraged. If such events must be held, they are to be conducted online wherever possible to minimize costs, the statement said.
