The government has decided to dissolve the Land Problem Settlement Commission as part of its ongoing cost-cutting and fiscal discipline efforts, the Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday.
The commission, revived in October 2024 under the KP Oli-led government, was tasked with distributing land to the landless, Dalits, squatters, and informal settlers. Similar bodies had been formed and restructured by past governments, yet the issues of landlessness and unequal access remain unresolved.
Officials say the move is intended to streamline land administration and curb unnecessary expenditure. However, concerns persist over how the government will ensure long-term solutions for affected communities.
