A section of road in Bangkok caved in on Wednesday, forming a massive sinkhole that disrupted traffic, damaged utilities, and forced evacuations in the area.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed that while no casualties were reported, three vehicles were damaged in the collapse, which officials suspect was linked to the construction of an underground train station.

Videos circulating online show the road gradually sinking, pulling down electricity poles and damaging water pipelines as cars attempted to escape. The four-lane road was completely severed, with the sinkhole stretching to the front of a police station, exposing its underground foundation.

A nearby hospital has suspended outpatient services for two days. Although officials said the hospital building remains safe, residents from the police station and surrounding structures were evacuated. Electricity and water supply in the area have also been cut off.

Authorities are working to repair the site quickly, amid concerns that ongoing heavy monsoon rains could worsen the damage.
