NEPSE Dips by 27.89 Points Amid Low Festive Trading

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped by 27.89 points, or 1.03 percent, on Wednesday, closing at 2,654. Early trading saw fluctuations, but overall turnover declined sharply.

 

According to NEPSE, trading amounted to Rs 4.12 billion, down from Rs 5.29 billion the previous day. Market activity slowed as investors appeared reluctant to sell shares ahead of Dashain, with payouts unlikely before the festival, while potential buyers were less active due to festive expenses.

 

Out of the listed companies, 53 gained values, 193 declined, and five remained unchanged. The hotel and tourism sub-index rose by 0.85 percent, while all other groups posted losses, led by the ‘Others’ group, which fell 2.16 percent.

 

Banking dropped by 0.73 percent, development banks by 1.13 percent, hydropower by 0.96 percent, investment by 1.90 percent, life insurance by 0.52 percent, microfinance by 0.84 percent, non-life insurance by 1.51 percent, trade by 1.65 percent, and manufacturing and processing by 0.11 percent.

 

Three companies—Upper Mailung Khola Hydropower, City Hotel, and Himstar Energy, saw their share prices surge 10 percent. On the downside, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta plunged 5.38 percent, Rapti Hydropower fell 4.63 percent, Butwal Power dropped 4 percent, and Corporate Development Bank shed 3.97 percent.

 

Union Hydropower, Nepal Reinsurance, Himalayan Reinsurance, CEDB Hydropower Holdings, and Shivam Cement recorded the highest transaction volumes of the day.
