Two major industrial firms based in Simara, Bara, Hulas Steel Industries and Ashok Steel have begun repaying their long-overdue electricity bills owed to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), marking progress in the authority’s drive to recover arrears from industries using dedicated and trunk power lines.
According to NEA Executive Director Manoj Silwal, Hulas Steel, which had accumulated Rs 141.2 million in arrears between February 2016 and May 2018, has started repayment under a 28-month installment plan, paying its first installment of Rs 5.043 million on Friday.
Similarly, Ashok Steel, with outstanding dues totaling Rs 175.8 million, made its first payment of Rs 6.3 million under the same repayment scheme.
The NEA said the installment-based repayments represent a positive step toward clearing long-standing dues from industrial consumers in the region, helping to strengthen financial discipline and transparency in the power sector.
