Youth leader Miraj Dhungana, a prominent figure of the Gen-Z movement, has revealed plans to establish a new political party aimed at bringing systemic change in Nepal.’
In a Facebook video released on Friday, Dhungana said the Gen-Z movement had created a “historic opportunity” for the country, noting that its progress was driven by the active participation of Nepalis nationwide.
He clarified that while the formation of a political party was necessary, the group would not immediately join upcoming elections.
“Forming a political party is essential now,” Dhungana said. “However, we will not participate in elections under the current system.”
Dhungana emphasized that participation in elections would come only after implementing key reforms, including direct election of the executive prime minister, voting rights for Nepalis abroad, and the creation of a citizen-level institution to combat corruption.
He also noted that the movement would continue its push for peaceful but transformative change, with a party formation dialogue committee already established to guide the process.
