Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, has emphasized the importance of timely screening to raise awareness about cervical cancer.

Speaking at the inauguration program of breast, uterine, and cervical cancer screening held on Monday, Dangol noted that cervical cancer is increasingly seen among women worldwide.

She said, “Every day, women around the world lose their lives due to cervical cancer. However, cancer is not an immediate death sentence; it is important to understand that it can be treated if detected early.”

She stressed that early detection makes treatment more effective and highlighted the importance of regular screening. Dangol also pointed out that many women hesitate to undergo testing due to lack of awareness, fear, and embarrassment.

She said, “How is this treated? Treatment is possible only if it is detected on time, and for that, we must undergo timely screening. Many women avoid testing due to lack of awareness. Some are afraid, and some feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. I would like to request from here that now is the time to break this shame, fear, and lack of awareness.”

During the program, women were urged to participate in regular health check-ups to reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
