The Federal Parliament's Infrastructure Development Committee has instructed the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport not to operate the newly completed Gwarko Overpass until essential safety measures are fulfilled. The committee issued the directive after inspecting the overpass on Wednesday, emphasizing that load capacity testing must be done before allowing any vehicles to use the structure.

Committee Chairperson Deepak Bahadur Singh stated that the ministry has been formally asked to complete four key safety task, installing street lights, setting up CCTV cameras, applying proper road markings, and conducting a technical test to assess the structure’s ability to handle traffic loads. He stressed that public safety must come first, especially since the overpass will be used by public transport vehicles.

Although the Department of Roads had planned to inaugurate the overpass on Asar 6 (June 20) with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the committee made it clear that no vehicle movement should be allowed before safety checks are completed. The directive reflects growing concerns about infrastructure being rushed into use without full technical evaluation, potentially risking public safety.
