Amid rising security tensions in the Middle East, the U.S. government has urged its citizens in the region to remain alert. In an updated travel advisory issued on Monday, the United States advised its citizens in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that commercial flights are still available, but sudden cancellations could occur, so they should exercise caution.
According to the advisory from the U.S. State Department, commercial flights from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to various cities in the U.S. and Europe are currently operational. However, due to the security situation in the region, flight schedules may change on short notice or be canceled.
The advisory also noted that land borders between the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman remain open, and commercial flights are operating from these countries as well. The U.S. State Department emphasized that it is closely monitoring security developments in West Asia and that the safety of American citizens remains the government's top priority.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh advised its citizens in Saudi Arabia to leave the country via commercial flights if possible. According to the embassy, although Saudi Arabia’s airspace remains open, the potential risk of missile or drone attacks could lead to occasional restrictions on air travel.
Airports in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam are operational, but delays or cancellations may occur, so travelers are urged to check flight status directly with airlines. The embassy instructed U.S. government employees in Saudi Arabia to stay in secure indoor locations and, when possible, remain away from windows.
Earlier, on March 8, the U.S. State Department ordered non-essential American government staff to leave Saudi Arabia due to ongoing missile and drone threats. On Monday morning, flights were temporarily suspended near Dubai International Airport following a drone-related incident, but the fire was brought under control and the airport has resumed operations.
The ongoing conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran has heightened security tensions across the Middle East, affecting both air travel and civilian safety.
