Four transport entrepreneurs have filed candidacy for the House of Representatives elections from different political parties, representing the issues of transport business owners and workers across the country.
According to Punya Prasad Sitoula, Senior Vice President of the Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs Federation, these four prominent transport entrepreneurs, who lead Nepal’s public transport sector, a sector with private investment and control, have entered the electoral arena to reach the policy-making level.
He stated that from the Nepali Congress, Federation President Vijay Bahadur Swar is contesting from Kailali–2, western transport entrepreneur Bishnu Khadka from Surkhet–1, and senior entrepreneur Bhagwat Mall from Syangja–2. From the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa), Karnali transport chief Ramesh Sapkota is contesting from Surkhet–2.
Sitoula noted that the transport sector has been in disarray because it has not been represented at the policy-making level. He emphasized that due to the lack of representation in policymaking, a sector with significant national investment and considered a key driver of economic prosperity has fallen into disorder.
He said, “Because the transport sector has no representation at the policy-making level, a sector with enormous investment and a primary contributor to the country’s economic prosperity has become disorganized. Public transport is the most used service by Nepali citizens. With no representation in parliament, the transport sector fell into disorder. Therefore, the Federation and transport entrepreneurs decided, and Federation President Vijay Bahadur Swar has filed his candidacy from Kailali–2 under the Nepali Congress banner.”
Sitoula also appealed to transport entrepreneurs to unite and support these four candidates in order to bring the transport sector to the policy-making level.
