Former Prime Minister and Co-Chairperson of the Nepal Communist Party, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has expressed serious concern over the communal tension observed in Gaur, Rautahat.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Madhav Kumar Nepal, who is also a candidate for Rautahat Constituency No. 1, said the conflict between Hindu and Muslim communities has disrupted normal life and raised safety concerns for the public.
He stated, “Whether Hindu or Muslim, no citizen’s life or safety should be at risk. Such conflict is unacceptable under any circumstances.”
Nepal added that he is in continuous dialogue with the government and security agencies to control the situation. He said he had spoken with the Home Minister over the phone and suggested imposing a curfew if necessary, as well as deploying the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Army to maintain peace and security.
“I have talked with the Home Minister, even if it means imposing a curfew, the situation must be brought under control,” he said. He also mentioned ongoing coordination with the DIG of Janakpur, the Chief District Officer, and the Superintendent of Police in Rautahat.
Emphasizing the need for the administration to ensure no property damage occurs and individual dignity is respected, Nepal appealed to all sides to set aside hatred and resolve the conflict through dialogue and mutual understanding.
