In the first six months of the current fiscal year, goods worth Rs. 29.27 billion were exported to various countries through the Birgunj Customs Office. This marks a 100% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year when exports stood at Rs. 14.56 billion. The increase in exports is mainly due to the higher export of processed soybean and sunflower oil to India, according to the Office's Information Officer, Amit Tiwari.
The customs office collected Rs. 176.6 million in revenue from exports during this period, compared to Rs. 103.81 million in the same period last year. On the other hand, goods worth Rs. 277.15 million were imported through the Birgunj border in the first six months of the current fiscal year. This is a 6.45% rise compared to imports worth Rs. 260 million in the same period last year.
