An attempted jailbreak at Morang District Jail on Wednesday led to police firing warning shots to bring the situation under control.
A group of people arrived outside the prison demanding the release of inmates. Taking advantage of the chaos, several prisoners tried to flee. Police responded by firing about 15 rounds in the air to disperse the crowd and prevent the escape.
The mob scattered shortly after, and a Nepal Army team was deployed to the site. Authorities said the situation has now been brought under control.
