On Wednesday, inmates at Dhading District Prison tried to escape during an arson attack, prompting the Nepali Army to open fire.

A 75-year-old man died in the incident. Dhading Hospital reports that two people are in serious condition, while five others suffered minor injuries.

The prison break was reportedly inspired by the recent release of Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane from Nakkhu Prison. Following that event, inmates in several prisons across Nepal have tried to escape, demanding equal treatment.

Inside Dhading prison, prisoners set fires, while a mob outside clashed with security forces. Police and army surrounded the area, with soldiers even stationed on rooftops. The army, which took national security command on Tuesday night, was deployed in full force to control the situation.
