With 41 days left until the election, candidates contesting the House of Representatives will receive their election symbols today.
According to the Election Commission (EC), candidates who have filed nominations can withdraw their candidacy today until 1:00 pm. The withdrawal time is from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, as set in the election schedule.
The EC will publish the final list of candidates between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm today. After that, election symbols will be given to candidates from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Earlier, the EC allowed complaints against nomination papers under the first-past-the-post system on January 7, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. After checking nominations and resolving complaints, the preliminary list of candidates was published the same day between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
In total, 3,486 candidates have registered in 165 constituencies across the country. Nomination registration ended on January 6. Among them, 3,089 are men, 396 are women, and one is from the third gender category.
The House of Representatives election will be held on March 5. Out of 275 seats, 165 members will be elected directly, while 110 members will be elected through the proportional representation system.
