The Election Commission has warned that it will take action against violations of the election code of conduct not only based on complaints but also through its own investigations.
Speaking to News Agency Nepal, Commission spokesperson Suman Ghimire said reports from the Commission’s monitoring mechanisms and received complaints will be studied before taking legal action. He stressed that the code of conduct applies to political parties, candidates, and voters alike, and that monitoring units have been activated at constituency, district, and central levels.
Ghimire said some activities contrary to the code were noticed during Tuesday’s nomination process and are already under the Commission’s review. Action will be taken based on both self-monitoring reports and complaints.
Meanwhile, a total of 3,486 candidates have filed nominations nationwide for the House of Representatives election, including 3,089 men, 396 women, and one candidate from another group. The nomination process was completed peacefully, boosting the Commission’s confidence that the election scheduled for Falgun 21 will be held in a free, fair, and orderly manner.
