Budhanilkantha Municipality is trying to get Budhanilkantha temple listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To initiate this process, local authorities have started discussions involving historians, cultural experts, writers and journalists. They believe the massive stone statue of Lord Vishnu, made in the second century during Vishnu Gupta's time is an important historical site and needs to be recognized globally.
Experts like Professor Dinesh Raj Pant, theologian Dr. Govinda Tandan, Malla K Sundar, Chancellor of Nepal Bhasa Academy, writers Sneha Sayami, Shyam Rimal and Shreesh Bhandari have advised the municipality to collect strong proof about the temple's history and architecture. They also suggested studying the natural surroundings of the Shivapuri-Budhanilkantha area, as this could help strengthen the proposal.
The discussions will continue in the coming days and the municipality is expected to gather more evidence and work on the application process. If successful, Budhanilkantha temple could gain international recognition, helping to preserve its heritage and attract more visitors.
