The 9.6 MW Daramkhola Hydropower Project in Baglung has begun commercial electricity generation from Sunday, after years of delay. Although the project was proposed in 2065 BS, construction started only in 2077 BS.
Operated by Daramkhola Hydro Energy Ltd., the plant was connected to the national grid on Ashoj 30. Power is generated from Kandebas (Galkot-8) and supplied through a powerhouse in Manevapaat, with transmission linked to the Harichaur substation.
According to engineer Mithilesh Chaudhary, the plant can produce 9.6 MW during the monsoon but generates around 6.6 MW in winter.
Chairman Narbahadur Pun said more than Rs 2 billion was invested in the project, which is now Baglung’s largest hydropower installation. He added that the project is expected to improve electricity access in remote villages of the district.
