Nepal Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said he is contesting the upcoming election from Rukum (East) to deliver a message of socialism, citing the district’s historic role in Nepal’s republican movement.

Addressing a gathering of party cadres from Rukum (East) in Kathmandu on Friday, Dahal said the Chunwang meeting held in the district had laid the foundation for Nepal’s federal democratic republic and ensured inclusive rights for women and other oppressed communities. He noted that Rukum (East) is also remembered for the historic Lawang meeting, which featured major ideological debates within the party.

Stating that the country is facing a complex situation after the Gen-Z movement, Dahal said Rukum (East) is an appropriate place to unite the nation, strengthen the communist movement and convey a renewed message of socialism. He added that having already contested elections from Rolpa in the past, he chose Rukum (East) for the Falgun 21 election.

Dahal also said that although people’s war martyrs were granted national recognition during his third term as prime minister, the related legal provisions are yet to be fully implemented.
