Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the leader of the Maoist Center, mentioned that the current government only looks strong when it is seeking revenge.
During a meeting in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Dahal used the case of Rabi Lamichhane, the leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, to highlight this issue.
"The government shows its strength only when it wants revenge. A clear example of this is Rabi Lamichhane," he said.
Dahal explained that Lamichhane, who was not directly involved in stealing money from cooperatives, is now being accused of being the biggest fraudster in the country's cooperatives. He pointed out that those who once supported Lamichhane for the position of Prime Minister are now trying to bring him down, even by putting pressure on the courts. Dahal called this an abuse of government power.
He also stressed that the power of the state is being misused in Lamichhane's case.
Dahal further mentioned that since Speaker Devraj Ghimire has been given bail by the court, there is no reason to suspend Lamichhane’s seat in Parliament.
“I ask the honorable Speaker to think about whether it is constitutional or fair to suspend Lamichhane from Parliament after the court gave him bail,” he said.
“If the accusations of money laundering are politically motivated and unfair, and Lamichhane’s membership is suspended because of it, how can we prevent such actions from being misused in the future?”
