Cyclone Montha’s Impact Weakens Across Nepal

Weather expected to gradually improve, but light rain and snowfall likely in some areas

The impact of Cyclone Montha, which had developed in the Bay of Bengal, has gradually weakened in Nepal. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the system that was centered over Chhattisgarh, India, as a low-pressure area has started to lose strength since Wednesday night.

 

Currently, Nepal is under the partial influence of westerly winds and a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea. As a result, the country is witnessing partly to mostly cloudy weather conditions. Koshi Province remains fully cloudy, while the rest of the provinces are experiencing partial to mostly cloudy skies. Light to moderate rainfall has been reported in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

 

The Division forecasts that during the day, generally cloudy weather will prevail in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, while other regions will remain partly cloudy. Moderate rainfall is possible in some parts of Koshi and in a few hilly areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

 

Light snowfall is also expected in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki.

 

Travelers have been advised to take precautions, as the changing weather and chances of rain or snowfall in higher elevations could affect movement and visibility.
