Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, ex-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and two other officials have been asked by the Supreme Court to submit a written explanation within 15 days regarding the government’s decision to seize their passports and restrict their travel outside the Kathmandu Valley.

The order came on Friday from a single bench of Justice Nrip Dhwaj Niraula during the preliminary hearing of a writ petition filed by advocate Dr. Premraj Silwal on October 28. The petition challenged the government’s action as unconstitutional and sought interim relief, which the court did not grant.

The restrictions were imposed following recommendations from a government probe into the September 8–9 incidents, targeting five former officials: Oli, Lekhak, ex-Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, ex-NID chief Hutaraj Thapa, and former Kathmandu CDO Chhabi Rijal.

Meanwhile, the UML Secretariat is scheduled to meet Saturday at Oli’s temporary residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur, with the passport and travel restrictions expected to be a key discussion point.
