Chaos erupted at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday, when a massive crowd gathered for Ekadashi celebrations, leading to a deadly stampede that killed at least ten people and injured several others.

 

Eyewitness videos showed panic-stricken devotees and injured individuals being rushed to ambulances. Officials said rescue efforts began immediately, and the injured are being treated at nearby hospitals.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy, announcing ₹2 lakh each for the victims’ families and ₹50,000 for the injured. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu called the incident “deeply heartbreaking” and ordered swift medical support.

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and state minister Nara Lokesh also extended condolences, assuring full assistance to those affected.
