The Nepali Congress office-bearers’ meeting held on Saturday ended without a conclusion as leaders failed to agree on whether to hold the party’s upcoming general convention before or after the national elections.
The meeting, which took place at the party’s central office in Sanepa, was aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute over the timing of the convention. However, no final agreement was reached.
Party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the discussions were focused on finding a unified position. “We are close to reaching an understanding. The central committee will make the final decision through consensus,” he said, adding that both sides had narrowed their differences.
The establishment faction, led by senior leaders, has been advocating for the convention to be held only after the elections, likely around next Baisakh. In contrast, the faction led by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma has been pushing for a special convention before the polls.
Due to the lack of consensus, the ongoing Central Committee meeting has been postponed until Sunday.
