Cyclone Montha’s impact has brought widespread rain across Nepal, raising fears of floods in several provinces and prompting authorities to issue high alerts.

Continuous rainfall since Wednesday night has affected large parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, as the impact of Cyclone Montha intensifies. Authorities have warned of rising water levels and possible flooding in several major rivers.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported that rivers in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces are expected to swell significantly, with the cyclone’s effect likely to continue until Saturday. Residents along riverbanks have been urged to stay alert and take precautionary measures.
Districts at high risk of flooding include Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Panchthar, Okhaldhunga, Bhojpur, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Saptari, Rautahat, Chitwan, Lalitpur, Nawalparasi, and Rupandehi, among others.
The department also cautioned travelers and communities near rivers such as Saptakoshi, Tamor, Arun, Dudhkoshi, Tamakoshi, Sunkoshi, Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, and Rapti, warning that continuous rainfall could cause sudden floods.
Authorities have mobilized local bodies and emergency response teams as rainfall is expected to persist for the next few days.
