Senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, has fallen victim to a burglary at his private residence in Mandikatar while he and his wife were away.
Police said unidentified individuals forcibly entered the house and made away with valuables. The incident was discovered on Friday evening when a relative, entrusted with routine maintenance of the house, arrived and found the main door broken and belongings scattered inside. Authorities were immediately alerted.
Investigators believe the burglars operated in a highly professional manner. To prevent identification, they dismantled and stole two to three CCTV cameras along with the DVR recording system. Police also confirmed the theft of expensive fixtures, including taps installed in the kitchen and bathrooms. A detailed assessment of the stolen items is still underway.
Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office SSP Santosh Khadka confirmed the case, stating that a special team led by an inspector has been mobilized. A joint team comprising the Crime Investigation Office, Kathmandu District Police Range, and Maharajgunj Police Circle is carrying out the investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest the suspects entered the property by scaling the boundary wall. The burglary is believed to have taken place between the evening of Magh 14 and Magh 17. Police have completed an initial site inspection and are intensifying efforts to trace those involved.
