Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the party’s regular general convention will be held before the provincial and local elections. He made the statement on Saturday while meeting party workers from Kathmandu Constituency No. 4.

Thapa said the new convention of the Nepali Congress would initiate a system where election tickets are distributed from the grassroots level. He stated that no one would need to visit the homes of the party president or general secretaries to seek provincial election tickets. Claiming that there are no factions within the party, he said the old 60/40 power-sharing practice has now ended. He announced that the Congress will neither practice power-sharing within the party nor outside it, and that the party will be run by treating everyone equally.

He said, “Before the next local elections and before the next provincial elections, the party convention will be completed. The new convention of the Nepali Congress will reform everything in the party. Election tickets will be selected through a primary system by comrades at the ward level—by those at the grassroots. For provincial tickets, no one will need to visit the homes of the party president or general secretaries. There are no factions in the party. The old 60/40 system is over. The Congress will not practice power-sharing either inside or outside the party. The party will be run by treating everyone equally. A campaign to strengthen citizens and the party has begun within the party. This is a changing Congress. No one will have any dealings in the dark rooms of the party president.”

President Thapa said the Congress is now moving toward transformation, adding that the changed Congress has come forward with a resolve to change Nepal.
