Thirteen years after Mugu district was connected to the national road network, the Karnali Provincial Government has finally ensured a budget of Rs 160 million to blacktop the Talcha–Gamgadhi road.

Under the multi-year contract process of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development for the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26), the budget source has been secured to blacktop the road section from Talcha to Gamgadhi. The decision was made on Falgun 5 in accordance with the Multi-Year Contract Agreement Directive 2079.

A total of Rs 159.938 million has been allocated to blacktop the nine-kilometer road stretch. The budget was secured after initiatives taken by Mugu’s provincial lawmaker and former minister, Jit Bahadur Malla.

Malla also stated that budget sources have been ensured for several other projects in Karnali Province, including road and bridge construction projects in Rukum and Dolpa districts.

Despite being connected to the national road network 13 years ago, residents and travelers in Mugu have long suffered from dust and muddy conditions. President of the Mugu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kamal Bahadur Budha, said that while the road blacktopping is welcome, it must meet proper quality and standards.
