Thirty-five Nepali youths who were held captive in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, India, have been rescued after falling victim to a fake job offer scam.
According to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, the victims were lured from various districts of Nepal with promises of attractive jobs. Once taken to India, they were held hostage, beaten, tortured, and financially exploited.
After receiving information about the incident, the Nepali Embassy acted on the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With the help of the Uttarakhand Police and a local social organization, the rescue operation was carried out on Asar 5 (June 19, 2025).
Some individuals involved in the incident have already been arrested by Indian authorities. The embassy also suspects that more Nepalis may still be trapped in other locations, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
The rescued individuals will be brought back to Nepal after completing the necessary legal procedures, the embassy stated.
This incident highlights the dangers of fake foreign job promises and the importance of verifying employment opportunities through official and legal channels.
