Road accidents in Nepal are increasing at an alarming rate. According to Nepal Police, the country sees around 75 to 90 accidents daily, causing about 7 deaths and 80+ injuries every day. In the last fiscal year, over 2,368 people died and more than 31,000 were injured in road crashes.
Recent tragedies like the Chitwan bus-microbus collision, which killed seven people, including a pregnant woman, highlight the severity of the issue. The main causes include reckless driving, poor road conditions, weak law enforcement, and inadequate vehicle maintenance.
Most accidents involve motorcycles and public transport. Emergency response is also slow, especially in remote areas, leading to preventable deaths.
To reduce these numbers, better roads, stricter traffic rule enforcement, driver education, and faster rescue services are a necessary component. Road safety must become a top national priority to save lives and prevent future tragedies.
