The Kathmandu district court has granted police the permission to keep Durga Prasain, the self-styled commander of the March 28 protest of pro-monarchist forces in Kathmandu, in a 12-day custody for an investigation into his role in the protest.
A single bench of justice Shishir Raj Dhakal granted the permission to keep Prasain in custody for investigating his role in the incidents of death, injuries, destruction and looting that took place during the protest that also saw the use of the state’s brute force against dissent.
Police have also sought the court’s permission to keep Prasain’s bodyguard, Dipak Khadka, for as many days for a probe.
Police have so far arrested around 70 people in connection with the March 28 riots, including RPP leaders Dhawal Shumsher Rana and Rabindra Mishra.
