Israel Launches New Offensive in Gaza

Israel has begun a major military operation in Gaza, called Operation Gideon’s Chariots, aiming to defeat Hamas and rescue remaining hostages. The military says it has struck over 150 targets in 24 hours and will keep going until Hamas is no longer a threat.

Since the attacks began, over 250 people have been reported dead, including 58 killed overnight. The situation is worsening with Gaza under an aid blockade since March, pushing the region closer to famine.

International concern is growing. UN Human Rights Chief warned the attacks and displacement could amount to ethnic cleansing. A British doctor in Gaza described children as severely malnourished and struggling to recover from injuries.

Israel launched this campaign after a deadly Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and led to 251 hostages being taken. Gaza’s health ministry now reports over 53,000 deaths since the conflict began.
