Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, said that the government is punishing people just because they support the monarchy, Hinduism and the idea of removing federalism.
Speaking at the House of Representatives on Friday, Lingden said the government is violating the Constitution of Nepal, especially Articles 17, 270, and 274. He said that for the past two months, people like Rabindra Mishra have been kept in police custody simply because of their beliefs.
He also drew attention to the recent arrest of RPP’s youth wing by the Cyber Bureau. According to Lingden, if people are going to be arrested one after another just for their opinions, then the government should openly say that it wants them to rebel or go to the jungle.
“If someone says they support the king, Hindu nation, don’t accept federalism and demand good governance and punishment for corrupt people — and for that, they are being arrested and harassed — then the government should just tell us to opt for a rebellion,” he said.
Lingden called such actions on the part of the government very unfortunate and against human rights, democratic freedoms and rights enshrined in the Constitution.
