Swarnim Wagle, vice-chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), said that political parties are drifting away from the main goal of nation-building.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Friday during a discussion on the principles and priorities of the upcoming budget, Wagle said parties are more focused on election politics than on the country’s development, which has led to problems.
He pointed out that during the budget-making process, lawmakers compete to make sure their own projects are included.
“The Finance Minister sat here for four days. I saw every MP trying to whisper their own demands — please don’t leave out my project,” Wagle said.
He blamed the system for promoting vote-bank politics and small, scattered projects instead of long-term development plans.
