Rising tensions in West Asia have started to affect the supply of cooking gas in Nepal. Several gas depots have closed, and long queues have formed at the ones that remain open.
On Thursday morning, many people were seen waiting with empty cylinders in the Balaju Industrial Area. Some managed to get gas, but many returned home without refilling their cylinders due to limited supply.
The shortage comes as conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran continues to escalate in the Gulf region.
The conflict has also affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for transporting gas and petroleum. This disruption is impacting markets in different parts of the world.
Nepal imports cooking gas and petroleum products through India. Supply problems in India have now started to affect the Nepali market as well.
The Nepal Oil Corporation is trying to manage the situation, but many consumers say they are still facing difficulty getting cooking gas.
