Voting has started today for 18 National Assembly (NA) seats that will become vacant from March 4. Polling began at 9 am in all seven provincial capitals and will continue until 3 pm, Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Bhattarai said. Out of the 18 seats, one seat from the Khas Arya category in Koshi Province has already been filled without competition, with Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress elected unopposed. Today’s elections are being held for the remaining 17 seats.

Polling centers have been set up in each provincial capital, including Biratnagar for Koshi Province, Janakpur for Madhesh Province, Hetauda for Bagmati Province, Pokhara for Gandaki Province, Ghorahi for Lumbini Province, Birendranagar for Karnali Province, and Dhangadhi for Sudurpaschim Province. Only members of the Provincial Assembly, mayors and deputy mayors, and chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities are eligible to vote in this election. The Election Commission also noted that vote shares for the National Assembly election have been revised after some representatives resigned and filed their candidacies for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5.
