As the House of Representatives (HoR) election nears, demand for eggs has increased, causing prices to go up. The Nepal Layers Poultry Breeders Association has raised egg prices starting today.
Now, a crate of 30 large eggs costs Rs 495, up from Rs 465, a rise of Rs 30. A crate of medium eggs is priced at Rs 475, up from Rs 445.
Egg prices had previously reached their highest in December, when large eggs sold for Rs 565 per crate and medium eggs for Rs 550. According to the association’s chairman, Binod Pokharel, the election season and stricter border checks have contributed to the price increase.
Other factors include schools reopening and a small drop in egg production, which have also pushed prices higher. The production cost for farmers is Rs 19.12 per kilogram, or Rs 574.06 per crate. Earlier, when market prices fell near the cost price, farmers faced losses. With the new price rise, they are hopeful for better earnings.
The association adjusts egg prices based on market conditions to ensure farmers get fair returns.
